There will be light refreshments and a popular balloon-drop finale! Souvenir photos will be available for an additional cost at the dance. Event Details: Don Ross was a contemporary of the late Michael Hedges and is viewed as an inspiration and influence to many of today’s fingerstyle guitarists. One of Don’s most memorable pieces is his tribute to Hedges titled ‘Michael, Michael, Michael.’ Don was born and raised in Montreal to a Mi’kmaw Indigenous mother and a Scottish immigrant father. After living in various parts of Canada throughout his life, Don currently resides in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music) degree from Toronto’s York University and started working full-time as a musician in 1988. Initially concentrating his touring primarily in Canada at the start of his career, Don went on to sign with Sony Music/Columbia Records (Canada) in 1994, releasing three albums for the label. US-based Narada Records also licensed two pieces of his for the Masters of Acoustic Guitar CD in 1997. 30+ years and 25+ albums later, amidst the global pandemic in 2020, Don went back to university and completed a Master of Arts degree in Orchestration through the University of Chichester (UK) and ThinkSpace Education, graduating in early 2021. Since then, he’s been working extensively in the world of scoring orchestral and electronic music for video games, films, and television. Don Ross is a man of many firsts: He was the first ever guitarist to win the National Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in Winfield Kansas twice, in 1988 & 1996.He was the first artist signed by the internationally known indie guitar label Candyrat Records in 2005.AND… he was the Michigan Fingerstyle Guitar Society’s very first ever concert in February 2002. In fact, the MFGS logo was created off of a photo taken of him during that performance! We couldn’t be more excited to welcome him back for his 5th appearance for the Michigan Fingerstyle Guitar Society. Please join us for a special evening of exceptional guitar playing.

Event Details: Take a chance to share your music live on the Trinity House Theatre stage. Open Stage takes place the first and third Tuesday nights of the month (and 5th Tuesday if there is one). The doors open at 5:45 p.m. and the music starts at 6:00 p.m. Local songwriter, Bob Knox, will serve as the host of the evening. Tickets are only $5 and you can enjoy free beverages and snacks. ****Due to the recent increase in the number of participants, there is a 2 SONG GUARANTEE for the first 20 sign ups. Sign up is when you get there! That will be the GUARANTEE but I reserve the right to wiggle as time permits.
