About Mt Pleasant

The buzz of a college town is strong in Mt. Pleasant, an oasis of civilization smack in the middle of Michigan’s lower peninsula. The main campus of Central Michigan University and the 20,000 or so students that call the city home in the school months are here, and Mt. Pleasant is also home to about 26,000 full-time residents. Thinking of joining their ranks? Let’s look at the reasons you’d like it.

You’re at the intersection of it all. Want to see the Mackinaw Bridge? It’s a quick jaunt up 127 and I-75. Do you like skiing? Some of the best hills in the state are nearby. Water life is a short drive away at Houghton Lake, and city life is an even shorter drive to Lansing. And there’s plenty of attractions in the local community, of course. In the winter, go snowshoeing, snowmobiling, or ice skating! In the summer, enjoy movies in the park and summer concerts! Take a scenic kayak trip down the Chippewa River.

And the golf! If you like to swing clubs, there are ten world-class courses in or near Mt. Pleasant, including five within the city limits. Take a weekend, bring your putter, and enjoy some time on the greens. If you’d rather be indoors, the largest gaming floor in the state is here at the Soaring Eagle Casino Hotel, which also hosts national musical and comedy acts and is home to a delightful indoor water park the kids will never want to leave.

If you opt to call Mount Pleasant home, you have plenty of available choices for residences. Many homes have an Up North feel with stone fireplaces or elegant wood-walled kitchens. Finished basements are not uncommon in for-sale properties. Outside the city center, lots are sprawling, and privacy is easy to come by. Closer to downtown and the university, multitudes of rental properties abound. Mt. Pleasant is an excellent choice for anyone looking to move into real estate investment. The college students need a place to live.

Those students who make up Central Michigan University come from all walks of life, as the school has nationally recognized programs in psychology and electrical engineering, among others. The school hosts the region’s PBS station and the local NPR affiliate. Community members enjoy the various goings-on the university hosts, such as football games, comedy shows, concerts, and theater performances. Students are active in the community, aiding seniors in raking their leaves, mentoring schoolchildren, and building houses.

For about 150 years, European-American settlers have been calling Mt. Pleasant home. Will you soon be one of them? Mt. Pleasant would love to have you!
